Here, we construct a state-of-the-art semantic segmentation method that we call ERnet for the automatic classification of sheet and tubular ER domains inside individual cells. These results do not support the early use of semantics when reading low-frequency inconsistent words and our data from later in the time-course of processing shows a locus where individual differences could emerge. The correlations are simpler to interpret because Spearman correlations were used and the results much stronger. This is important because it shows that even if the differences between means are relatively weak as the ANOVA shows, this does not preclude their being moderate-strong relationships in the data based on semantic processing. There are many reasons why individual differences in semantic processing might exist34,42,43 and differences could include the extent, efficiency, and time-course at which people process semantics. Whilst this study cannot distinguish between these possibilities, the correlations clearly showed that participants did process semantics later in the time course of processing even if the mean difference between the related and unrelated priming conditions was weak. An important issue for this study is to define what early semantic processing means with ERPs.

Here, we simplify the complex associations between different words (or entities/subjects) and their respective context words into co-occurrence relationships. An effective technique to capture word semantics based on co-occurrence information is neural network-based word embedding models (Kenton and Toutanova, 2019; Le and Mikolov, 2014; Mikolov et al. 2013). 3 The difference in microstate semantic features

For each of the 3301 articles, the KeyBERT method was applied to the title and abstract and, among the keywords derived by the KeyBERT, the top five were selected depending on significance scores. Excluding 157 articles, for which the titles and abstracts were either unavailable or too short to generate keywords, next, based on the keywords of 30,358 articles, the current study performed an analysis of research topics in Asian ‘language and linguistics’ research. Given the unprecedented interest in ‘computerized language analysis’ techniques and the practice of constantly augmenting interdisciplinary collaborations between ‘linguistics’ and ‘computer science’, several bibliometric analyses have been conducted on the relevant topics (Lei and Liao, 2017).

Simply reversing the word order of some of these (clothes baby) can result in a low-meaningfulness phrase. While the exact cognitive processes involved in human word combination remain debated20, it requires the composition of two or more lexical elements into a coherent whole, followed by a judgment of that whole constituent against prior world knowledge and related concepts. In this context, phrase-level familiarity/frequency is a vital part of ‘meaningfulness’, but does not fully explain it. Phrases that we encounter more often will naturally be accepted as meaningful, but some low-frequency phrases can also be highly meaningful. A previous study21 obtained meaningfulness ratings on these phrases from 150 human participants. Finally, we examine the effect of n-gram phrase frequency and semantic cosine similarity between the two words in the presented phrases on human and LLM meaningfulness ratings to identify possible reasons for discrepancies between LLM and human ratings.

Semantic analysis refers to a process of understanding natural language (text) by extracting insightful information such as context, emotions, and sentiments from unstructured data. It gives computers and systems the ability to understand, interpret, and derive meanings from sentences, paragraphs, reports, registers, files, or any document of a similar kind. As a complement to the preregistered analyses described above, several exploratory analyses were also performed. First, we performed an additional two-tailed paired t-test on the recall accuracy of tested pairs at the initial Day 1 test to determine whether semantically related pairs were recalled better than semantically unrelated pairs.

Including many time series increases redundancy which could demote model sensitivity37. Redundancy is inherent in the spatially smooth solutions of source distributed algorithms used for source localization. This leakage between brain sources makes it difficult to distinguish true from spurious connections75.

1. Preconditions for semantic evolution: a structuralist model of defining semantic relations

They may help researchers comply with medical regulations and enhance data quality and researchers’ management capability6. Preferably, EDC systems should also be interoperable so they can communicate with other systems and promote seamless data exchange and integration7. During individual trials a single white word was shown in the middle of a black screen for 300 ms followed by a question mark lasting for 1 second. Prior to each trial a fixation cross appeared on the screen for 700 ms cueing subjects to fixate their gaze on the middle of the screen. Only when the presented word was a color (i.e. a categorization paradigm), participants were asked to press the mouse button at the moment they saw the question mark. Since words of the category color were not relevant to the task and required a motor response that could interfere with the electrophysiological response68, we removed these trials from our analysis.

For example, A0 represents the agent/causer/experiencer of the verb and A1 represents the patient and recipient of the verb. Semantic adjuncts are roles that are not directly related to the verb, typically determiners or roles that provide supplementary information about verbs and core arguments. Common semantic adjuncts include adverbials (ADV), manners (MNR), and discourse markers (DIS). The current study selects six of the most frequent semantic roles for in-depth investigation, including three core arguments (A0, A1, and A2) and three semantic adjuncts (ADV, MNR, and DIS). A handful of studies have attempted to reveal differences in connectivity patterns of abstract and concrete words.

Fifty three percent of the articles on parental leave were written by female journalists, compared to 32% of the articles in the “General News” dataset. For political orientation, the proportion of articles published in right-oriented newspapers was almost identical for the parental leave reform dataset (56.49%) and the “3-day dataset” (56.73%). Overall, in the sense of SFL, language is conceived as a meaning-making system that can realize its experiential meanings through the choices of transitivity linguistic forms, which are then influenced by the contextual variables of the register (see Figure 1). Such basic ideas later form the foundations for SFTS as an applicable theory, as SFL shows a “strong interrelation between the linguistic choices, the aim of the form of communication and the sociocultural framework” (Munday et al., 2022, p. 122). However, all these lexical items denote a sense of moving towards an ending, and thus “results” is employed. Members in this meaning pattern include bufa ‘step’, jiezhou ‘rhythm, chengji ‘result’, chengjiu ‘achievement’, jiazhi ‘value’, and jincheng ‘progress’. Covarying collexemes in the VP slot that are significantly preferred by these lexical items in the NP slot generally incorporate qude ‘achieve’ and shixian ‘realize’.

Therefore, we also considered the contextual elements, if necessary, in choosing the most suitable process type for the clause. The third is the lack of previous studies on the topic of ACPP translations in Governance or other political texts with transitivity. Although the transitivity system has been widely used in literary translation studies, prior research on the translation of ACPP in Xi’s works or other political texts is limited.

The raw data supporting the conclusions of this article will be made available by the authors, without undue reservation. The original English sentence is split into two Chinese sentences through divide translation. Sentence 1 contains a two-layered hierarchical nestification structure while Sentence 2 contains a three-layered hierarchical nestification structure. In other words, “SIA” (Self-acceptance), the emotional and attitudinal acceptance of the actual self (Cong and Gao, 1999), is the symptom that connects self-acceptance and social support. For one thing, our results may suggest that social support that can elevate the emotional and attitudinal acceptance of their actual self will be more useful in improving self-acceptance. For another, people who accept themselves emotionally and attitudinally may obtain more social support. Previous literature identified that people with high self-acceptance were more likely to employ positive coping strategies (Komarudin et al., 2022). Seeking partial and emotional support proactively is a positive coping strategy for facing difficulties (Freire et al., 2016) and individuals with high levels of “SIA” (Self-acceptance) may be proactive in seeking support.

Asian countries, especially, are linguistically different from countries on other continents. In fact, the languages of most Asian countries are linguistically distant from the Indo-European language family (Lewis et al., 2009; Nakagawa and Sugasawa, 2022), to which the languages, including English, of most countries on other continents belong. Furthermore, the majority of Asian countries have unique official and native languages, and their socio-cultural characteristics are also heterogeneous (Chang, 2022; Tsui and Tollefson, 2017, pp. 1–21). The current study, therefore, seeks to analyze research trends of ‘language and linguistics’ research in Asian countries over the last two decades.

In these environments, the robot needs to understand not only the terrain shape (e.g., slope angle, smoothness), but also its contact properties (e.g., friction, restitution, deformability), which are important for a robot to decide its locomotion skills. As existing perceptive locomotion systems mostly focus on the use of depth cameras or LiDARs, it can be difficult for these systems to estimate such terrain properties accurately. Using the neural network trained with optimal parameters, the tweets were again scored and their AU-ROC curves created. Figure 3 shows the scalar comparison formulas both with optimal parameters (indicated by (O) and solid lines) and default parameters (indicated by (D) and dotted lines), color-matched, with a reference line for the 0.5 AU-ROC threshold. As was indicated in previous tests, the Dot Product (DP) formula proved to be the most effective and consistent method for scoring a tweet.

As a global event database, GDELT collects a vast amount of global events and topics, encompassing news coverage worldwide. However, despite its widespread usage in many studies, there are still some noteworthy issues. Above all, while GDELT provides a vast amount of data from various sources, it cannot capture every event accurately. It relies on automated data collection methods, and this could result in certain events being missed. Furthermore, its algorithms for event extraction and categorization cannot always perfectly capture the nuanced context and meaning of each event, which might lead to potential misinterpretations. In conclusion, articles on the parental leave reform in Danish media were written with a slightly greater level of emotionality than might be expected, an effect that was consistent across journalist gender and newspaper political orientation. Our topic modelling demonstrated a clear difference in the semantics of how male and female journalists covered the parental leave reform, with smaller effects of the political orientation of the newspaper. Finally, female journalists were robustly over-represented in the article dataset on parental leave reform, in line with other analyses suggesting that women are more likely than men to cover social, family and health issues39. Conspicuously absent from our discussion of language models are ones based on deep neural networks. On the surface, it would appear that such models belong to the class of linear lexical models (on a par with n-grams), as they do not appear in embody any sort of linguistic abstraction.

In this framework, episodes are comprised of both general conceptual reinstatement and episode-specific sensory processing, while recall of semantic memory often includes episodic information about when and where the information was acquired3. Future studies will be needed to better characterize whether these subtle learning-induced semantic distortions are short-lived or whether they can endure for weeks or months. To this end, we compared the semantic representations of individual words across learning.

The synthetic data generation process will be helpful in the creation of a robust method for the classification of activity types. The use of synthetic data may open opportunities for large-scale data sharing, model scalability, model efficiency, quality control, diversity, experimentation, availability, and analysis without revealing sensitive information. Based on the experimental evaluation, Jaccard Similarity reveals that GC produced better synthetic data samples than the CTGAN method with a close cumulative sum per feature.

Learning to Walk in the Wild from Terrain Semantics

Scientists have long been fascinated by whether dogs can truly learn the meanings of words and have built up some evidence to back the suspicion. A survey in 2022 found that dog owners believed their furry companions responded to between 15 and 215 words. In September 2022, Altair acquired RapidMiner, the German developer of the open source, Java-based suite of data science and analytics tools that was adopted by more than 1 million data scientists and developers. Altair has since adopted the RapidMiner name to refer to its full suite of 11 big data, analytics, and AI tools. Following an IPO on the Nasdaq in 2017 using the ticker symbol ALTR (not to be confused with the data access and data governance firm ALTR) Altair moved strongly into the big data and analytics space. It acquired a number of companies, including Monarch and its Datawatch product, for $176 million.

In a series of studies, Weiss et al.102,103,104 measured the functional coupling using coherence analysis – a statistical measure for the correlation of signals within a certain frequency band. They found significantly higher coherence in the beta band (13–18 Hz) for concrete words, independent of presentation modality (visual or auditory), while the early alpha band (8–10 Hz) revealed identical coherence patterns. Despite both of them being spectral measures of connectivity, Granger causality based on PDC adopts, unlike coherence, a more stringent criterion for establishing information flow. As such, there is not necessarily correspondence between coherence and causality (i.e. one does not imply the other)105,106. Similar to the studies conducted by Weiss, our exploratory analysis, despite the discrepancy in these methods, exhibited consistently higher beta band information flow that is stronger for concrete words (though unlike Weiss102,103,104, we also found differences in the alpha band).

Prior to learning, participants performed the Similarity-based Word Arrangement Task (SWAT), where they rated the similarity of subsets of words across four trials (60 words per trial). During the first two opportunities (Rounds 1 and 2), participants made judgements about the relatedness of the words within the pair. For the third opportunity (Round 3), pairs were either restudied (illustrated here with maroon border) or tested (blue border). On Day 2, participants completed a final cued recall test for all learned pairs, followed by another four trials of the SWAT. Meanwhile, the vertical axis indicates the event selection similarity between Ukrainian media and media from other countries.

The dataset used in this paper contains 14 schizophrenic patients and 14 normal subjects. In each test of the leave-one-out method, one patient’s data and one normal person’s data were selected as the test set, while the remaining 26 subjects’ data were used as the training set, and this process was repeated 14 times. Our results extend synchronic, cross-sectional findings from Srinivasan and Rabagliati (2015) suggesting that regular patterns of English polysemy exist in other languages toward a diachronic setting. Furthermore, through fine-grained target inference we also demonstrated how analogy may play a crucial role in shaping regular source-target mappings in historical semantic change across languages.

Fourth, our study was restricted to Spanish, precluding insights on cross-linguistic generalizability. As argued recently36 and as done in other PD studies35, replications over typologically different languages would be important to ascertain the external validity of these results. But a potential shift that moves a long distance in semantic space is more likely to be in a sparse area of the train dataset. In this respect, the analogy model would likely choose a target that is similar to the source – that is, the same target that the similarity model is choosing.

Finally, exploratory correlation analyses for each text in each group revealed non-significant associations between P-RSF scores and UPDRS-III scores. This suggests that patients’ action semantic alterations were not proportional to their degree of motor impairment.
